What is Palpitation?

Palpitations is a feeling of rapid palpitation, rapid heartbeat or trouble. Palpitations can be stimulated by pressure, exercise, or medications, or rarely due to a medical condition.

Although palpitations can be worrisome, they are usually not harmful. In rare cases, a symptom of a more severe heart condition, such as arrhythmia (a heart rhythm disorder), which may require treatment.

Symptoms

Palpitations can feel like your heart:

  • His strikes are accelerating
  • It beats very quickly

Get emergency medical care if the palpitations is accompanied by the following:

  • Tightness or pain in the chest area
  • Fainting
  • Severe shortness of breath
  • Severe dizziness

Causes

Often the cause of palpitations cannot be found. Common causes include:

  • Strong emotional responses, such as stress, anxiety, or panic attacks
  • Depression
  • Violent exercises
  • Stimulants, such as caffeine, nicotine, cocaine, amphetamines, and cold and cough medicines containing pseudoephedrine.
  • Fever
  • Hormonal changes related to menstruation, pregnancy, or menopause
  • Thyroid hormone is hyperactive or passive palpitations

Treatment

  • Avoid coffee.
  • Quit Smoking.
  • Refrain from drinking alcohol.
  • Eat healthy food regularly.
  • Get enough rest and sleep for hours.
  • Avoid taking drugs.
  • Sit and take a rest as soon as you feel a throbbing.
  • Maintain comfortable positions.
