Basic Drug Guide (Part 1)

Basic drug guide for pharmacy students (Part 1):

A/orthopedia medications:

  • celecoxib (celebrex), etoricoxib (arcoxia): indicated for the management of the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis.
  • piroxicam (felden), meloxicam (mobic), diclofenac sodium (voltarin):used to relieve the symptoms of painful inflammatory conditions like arthritis.
  •  osteocare: provides the same levels of calcium, magnesium, vitamin D and zinc which contribute to the maintenance of normal bone health
  •  neurobin (b1,b6, b12): used as an adjuvant in the treatment of neuritic pain and neuralgia.
  •  Alendronate (fosamax), risedronate (actonel): used in the treatment of osteporosis.
  •  calcium-D3: used to reduce risk of osteoporosis, improve calcium absorption and used for normal growth of bones and teeth.
  • methylprednisolone (depo-medrol): used to trear pain and swelling that occurs with arthritis and other joint disorder.
  • (myogesic) paracetamol +orphendrine citrate: used to treat pain and as a muscle relaxant.
  • Tramadol: used to treat moderate to sever pain.
  •  perozin, arthri-flex , radian gel: used to treat mild to moderate pain.

B/Pulmunogist medications:

  •  terbutaline: To treat or prevent bronchospasm { wheezing, chest tightness, trouble breathing}.
  • Symbicort: To control and prevent the symptoms of asthma.
  •  Pulmozyme: To improve lung function.
  •  esbriet( prifenidone): To treat a lung disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis(IPF).
  • alvesco (cidesonide): To prevent asthma attacks in adult and children who are least 12years. 
  • Curosurf: To prevent lung distress in premature babies.
  • breo elipta( fluticasone and vilantreol): To improve symptoms and prevent bronchospasm and asthma attack.
  • Afev: To treat { chronic fibrosing interstitial lung disease, idiopathic pulmonary, systemic sclerosis, associated interstitial lung disease}.
  • Ventolin: used to treat or prevent bronchospasm( narrowigof airways in lungs).

C/Ophthalmology medications:

  • Mandanol(Hypromellose): for treating eye dryness and soreness.
  •  Lumecare: for treating eye dryness.
  •  Patanol: for eye itch due to allergies.
  •  Metipranolol: for Treating glaucoma.
  •  ciprofloxacin: for treating eye infection, is also used in treatment of corneal ulcers.
  • Diclofenac sodium(Voltaren):  to reduce pain and inflammation in the eyes.
  • Loteprednol: for Treating eye swelling, redness, pain.
  •  Cyclopentolate: for temporarily dilating pupil of eye and relaxing the muscles of the eye. 
    Apraclonidine(lopidine): for Reducing pressure in the eye after certain types of laser eye surgery by decreasing amount of fluid produced in the eye.
  • tetracycline: for treating infections of the eye (is an anti-biotic).

D/ ENT medications:

  •  (Cefixime-Ciprofloxacin)tab: for Otitis externa and media also for postoperative.
  • (Loratadine-Desloratadine-Fexofenadine): for allergic Rhinitis, pharyngitis, itches in ear.
  • Montelukast tab: for Vasomotor rhinitis and allergic rhinitis.
  • Beclomethasone-Mometasone(Nasonex): for allergic rhinitis, nasal polyps and vasomotor-rhinitis.
  •  Xylometazoline(xylo-acino) spray: for congested nasal mucosa, rhinitis, flue.
  • Sea water(sea fresh) spray: for irrigation and refreshment of nasal mucosa.
  •  Betamethasone-n drop: for otitis externa and nasal allergies and adenoiditis.
  • Ciprofloxacin ear drop: for otitis externa.
  • Dewax drop: for ear wax.

E/ pediatric medications:

  • Paracetamol syrup or drop: used as antipyretic
  • Ibuprofen syrup: used as analgesic and anti-pyretic
  • Ondansetron syrup: used as anti-emetic
  •  Scopinal syrup: used as anti-spasmolytic in cases of abdominal pain or renal problem
  • Prospan syrup: cough syrup (anti-tussive)
  •  Tobramycin eye drop: used for neonatal conjuctivitis
  • Vitane syrup: multi-vitamin used as tonic
  • Bepanthen ointment: used for cases of napkin rash in infants.
  •  ColicEZ drop: used for infantile colic
  •  Biolact powder: probiotic used in cases of diarrhea
  • Zinc syrup: used in cases of diarrhea and zinc deficiency
  •  VitaminD3 drops: used for treating case of rickets and as daily requirement supplement.
  •  Ferimax syrup: Iron supplement for cases of Iron deficiency anemia.
  • Albuterol- salbutamol (Ventolin): is a bronchodilator that is used to relieve asthma.
  •  Fluticasone: used to treat kids with conditions like eczema, allergies, and asthma.
  •  Nystatin: an antifungal medication that is used to treat yeast infections, including thrush and candidal diaper rashes.
  • Methylphenidate (Ritalin): used to treat children with ADHD.
  •  Sodium Fluoride: this supplement can be an important way to keep their teeth healthy and prevent dental caries.
  • Promethazine: it used to prevent and control nausea and vomiting.

F/ gynecological medications:

  • Pregnancy multivitamins: for pregnancy supplement.
  • folic acid : used to preventing and treating low blood levels , and high blood levels.
  • Cefopodoxim-Nitofurantoin: for urinary tract infection. 
  • Ovumix-Flagyl vaginal ovule: for genital tract infection.
  • Miconazole vaginal-Clotrimazole-Fluconazole: for fungal infection(anti-fungal).
  •  Moxifloxacin: for pelvic inflammatory disease.
  • Vit D cap:for vit D deficiency.
  •  Iron: for iron deficiency anemia.
  •  Clomophine citrate-Gonadotrophin-Letrozole: for ovulation induction.
  •  Yasmin-zahra (drospirinone +ethinylestradil):  for contraception.
