Cradle Cap

Cradle cap is scalp-related juvenile seborrheic dermatitis. is thought to be quite prevalent, with a prevalence of 9.5–10%. it is most frequently observed in newborns between the ages of three weeks and twelve months, with a peak prevalence at three months.

What causes cradle cap?
It may be related to hyperactivity of sebaceous glands  responsive to residual (circulating maternal androgens), Malassezia has also been implicated although its exact role is not clear.

How is cradle cap diagnosed?
Clinical diagnosis is typically based on the identification of characteristic lesions on an infant’s scalp.

Treatment
1. Shampoo or rub baby oil on the scalp to remove scales and use a soft brush.
2. Steroid creams, certain shampoos, antibiotics, or antifungals could be required in more severe situations.
3. Wash the baby’s hair regularly and gently with baby shampoo and gently loosen the flakes with a soft brush.
